Cyclonic Circulation Over South Odisha; IMD Issues Rain, Storm Warnings Till Sept 15

Bhubaneswar: The upper air cyclonic circulation over South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh continues to persist and now extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

In its mid-day weather bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for September 11, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. These conditions are very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

An Orange Warning has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated locations in Malkangiri district on September 12.

Additionally, a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) has been forecast for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts on the same day.

The IMD has further extended the Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely to affect various districts across Odisha till September 15.
