Koraput: Boipariguda police in Koraput district have cracked a murder case on Wednesday with the arrest of two brothers who confessed to killing a villager over a long-standing land dispute and suspicion of involvement in their father’s murder. Police have seized an axe used in the murder.
Police said the case came to light after the complainant, Karna Pujari (18) of Dandabadi village, lodged a written report on Monday.
During investigation, accused Harichandra Bhumia (28) and Bhimsen Bhumia (25) of Anadarijodi village were apprehended and interrogated.
The duo admitted to murdering Samaru Pujari, father of the complainant, and burying his body in the Dalkhai Dangar forest near Pakadipani under Boipariguda police limits.
Following their confession, police sought the assistance of the SDM, Jeypore, and conducted an exhumation in the presence of witnesses and an Executive Magistrate. The body was recovered from a stream bed where it had been buried under stones.
Investigations revealed that the accused suspected Samaru Pujari’s role in the killing of their father, Dhana Bhumia, who was murdered on August 4.
Police had earlier arrested one woman, Moti Dalei, in that case. Believing Pujari was also involved, the brothers allegedly lured him out of his hut near the BSF camp at Dandabadi on August 29 and attacked him with an axe before killing him and concealing the body. Their brother, Somanath Bhumia, also allegedly took part in the crime and is currently absconding.
Police said the arrested accused will be forwarded to court, while efforts are on to trace the third suspect.
