Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched a new campaign to promote healthy eating habits among the public, with special focus on women and children.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Thursday announced that nutrition awareness will be taken to the grassroots level through 74,000 Anganwadi centres across the state.

The initiative, titled “Eat Right, Stay Bright,” is a joint effort of the Department of Women and Child Development and UNICEF.

It was formally launched today to coincide with Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month), observed every year in September.

As part of the programme, awareness drives on healthy diets will be conducted from September through October at all Anganwadi centres.

Highlighting the growing concern of obesity, Parida advised people to avoid oily and fried food, and instead adopt indigenous, locally available nutritious foods.

She also stressed the importance of exercise and yoga in daily life. “When thirsty, one should drink water instead of cold drinks. These small lifestyle choices can make a big difference,” she said.

The campaign aims to empower communities, especially women, with knowledge about balanced diets and healthier food practices to ensure long-term well-being.
