Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Confiscation Court (Authorised Officer, Special Court) at Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, has ordered the confiscation of assets belonging to Nirakar Rout, former Senior Geologist at the Remote Sensing Division in Bhubaneswar.
The assets, deemed disproportionate to his known sources of income, include a building and a homestead plot in Jajpur Road, Jajpur district, as well as bank deposits.
The case dates back to when Rout was charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 109 of the IPC for possessing assets disproportionate to his income.
In February 2018, the Special Judge, Special Court, Bhubaneswar, convicted Rout for possessing disproportionate assets. The Confiscation Court’s order, passed on September 12, 2025, aims to recover the ill-gotten assets.
