Phulbani: In a shocking incident, eight students of Sevashram School in Salaguda under Phiringia block of Kandhamal district sustained serious injuries after some fellow students allegedly applied Fevikwik glue to their eyes while they were asleep in the hostel on Thursday night.
The victims, unable to open their eyes due to the adhesive, were rushed to Gochhapada Community Health Centre and later shifted to Kandhamal District Headquarters Hospital in Phulbani for advanced treatment. Doctors at the district hospital are currently attending to the students, whose condition is reported to be critical.
Kandhamal District Welfare Officer (DWO) reached the hospital and is closely monitoring their treatment. Authorities said all necessary medical support is being extended to the injured students.
The disturbing incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions over the safety and supervision in Sevashram hostels, which are meant to provide safe residential facilities for children. Despite having wardens, hostel superintendents, and other staff, the lapse that led to such a grievous act has come under scrutiny.
