Cuttack: Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court and Chancellor of National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Justice Harish Tandon, on Saturday called upon young law graduates to embrace ethics, inquisitiveness and passion as they step into the legal profession.
Speaking at the university’s 12th Convocation, where 218 students received degrees, Justice Tandon said that law draws its nobility from morality and discipline, and reminded graduates that lawyers owe a duty not just to their clients but also to the courts and society at large. “Mere conferment of a degree is not recognition enough — its true value lies in applying knowledge to uphold justice,” he said.
He cautioned against unprofessional practices, stressing that any compromise with ethics weakens the social fabric. Emphasizing that law is dynamic, he urged students never to lose their zeal for learning. Passion and dedication, he said, would carry them through the early challenges of their careers.
Justice Tandon expressed confidence that NLUO graduates would carry forward the institution’s legacy with integrity and responsibility.
