Paradip: The bulk carrier MV Densa Lion has been detained at Paradip Port following an order of the Orissa High Court after it failed to clear outstanding maintenance dues amounting to ₹42.72 lakh.
The arrest took place late last night after the ship’s company reportedly defaulted on payments owed to Waypoint Port Services Limited. Acting on the court’s directive, the port authorities ordered the vessel to remain detained at the anchorage until further notice.
MV Densa Lion, which had berthed at Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) to load iron plates, will remain under arrest until the next hearing in the matter.
This is not the first instance of such action at Paradip Port. Over the past year, more than four vessels have been arrested due to similar disputes. While three of those ships were released after court-mediated settlements of dues, the release of MV Densa Lion will depend on the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
