Bhubaneswar: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Odisha has decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government during the Monsoon Session of the Assembly, which begins tomorrow, September 18.
Announcing the decision, CLP leader and Pottangi MLA Rama Chandra Kadam said the government has failed on multiple fronts, including women’s safety, the farm sector, unemployment, and the rights of Dalits and Adivasis.
“The incidents of crime against women in Gopalpur, Balasore, Balanga, and Brahmagiri have shaken the state. The brutal killing of a woman police constable in Keonjhar has further exposed the collapse of law and order in Odisha,” Kadam said.
He further alleged that the BJP government has failed to ensure the availability of fertilizers for farmers. “Farmers are struggling to procure fertilizers and are being forced to pay inflated prices. The government has completely failed to address their plight,” he added.
Kadam also criticized the delay in conducting students’ union elections in Odisha’s colleges and universities.
Earlier, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das had urged the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the principal opposition party, to move the no-confidence motion. “Being the main Opposition, the BJD should take the lead. If not, Congress will move the motion, and we expect their support,” Das had said.
