Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has given top priority to agricultural mechanization to transform farming, enhance productivity, and empower farmers across the State. Presently, farm power availability in Odisha has risen to 2.61 kW per hectare in 2024-25, with a roadmap to achieve 3.50 kW/ha by 2036 and 4.50 kW/ha by 2047.
For the current financial year, the State has earmarked a subsidy budget of ₹540 crore, targeting distribution of farm machinery worth ₹1200 crore to farmers. General category farmers will receive 40% subsidy, while SC/ST, women, small and marginal farmers will get 50% subsidy. Women SHGs are entitled to 75% subsidy, and FRA patta holders will benefit from 90% subsidy on farm machinery.
To ensure transparency and efficiency, several digital initiatives have been rolled out, including online applications through Go Sugam, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of subsidies, e-RUPI vouchers up to ₹50,000 for upfront payments, and SUIC codes for unique identification and traceability of implements. These steps are helping farmers access advanced machines with ease while curbing delays and leakages.
Addressing the meet Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee stated that the State is also organizing Farm Mechanization Melas across Odisha. 4 Regional Melas (Sonepur, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati & Nabarangpur), 26 District-level Melas, and 28 Sub-divisional Melas. These events will connect farmers directly with manufacturers, dealers, self-help groups, financial institutions, and government agencies, ensuring easy access to modern equipment, demonstrations of new technology, and after-sale services.
Director Agriculture Shubham Saxena has called upon manufacturers for active participation in the upcoming melas scheduled from November 2025 to January 2026. Manufacturers have been urged to maintain adequate stock for on the-spot supply and pass on the full benefit of GST reduction to farmers.
Odisha is determined to make farming more modern, profitable, and attractive for future generations by reducing drudgery, addressing labour shortages, and ensuring timely agricultural operations through mechanization Dr. Padhee added. Chief Engineer Bishnuprasad Mishra and other senior officers attended the meeting.
