Balasore: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has detained two persons after recovering 17 live tortoises from their possession at Balasore railway station.

According to a statement from the South Eastern Railway (SER), the seizure was made on Thursday from the Bhadrak–Kharagpur passenger train during a routine check. The tortoises were found packed inside bags.

The detained individuals, both residents of Balasore district, were taken to the RPF post along with the seized tortoises. They were later handed over to the Chandipur wildlife range officials for further legal action under wildlife protection laws.
