Bhubaneswar: As many as 1,404 teaching posts are lying vacant across 17 state-run universities in Odisha, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj told the Assembly on Friday.
Of the vacancies, 260 are Professor posts, 453 Associate Professors, and 669 Assistant Professors. Ravenshaw University has the highest shortfall, with 161 vacancies, including 22 Professors, 54 Associate Professors, and 86 Assistant Professors. Utkal University stands second with 136 unfilled positions — 38 Professors, 49 Associate Professors, and 49 Assistant Professors.
The Minister also revealed that 2,286 non-teaching positions remain vacant across the 17 universities. Utkal University accounts for the largest share with 779 vacant posts, followed by Berhampur University with 258 and Ravenshaw University with 199.
The disclosure highlights the scale of faculty and staff shortages in Odisha’s higher education system, raising concerns over academic quality and administrative efficiency in the state’s premier universities.
