Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police’s special team has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Ajay Kumar Parida alias Raja, for trading brown sugar in Bhubaneswar.
During a surprise raid in the Dhauli area, the police seized 121 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a SIM card from the accused.
According to the police, Raja, a resident of Rakema village under Fategarh police station in Nayagarh district, was involved in the illegal trade of brown sugar in the city. He would supply white sugar to retailers in various parts of Bhubaneswar and was also engaged in selling brown sugar.
The police received intelligence inputs about Raja’s activities and conducted the raid under Operation ‘Prahar’, a crackdown on drug dealers launched before the festive season.
The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
