Bhubaneswar: BJP MLA Padmalochan Panda has brought a breach of privilege motion against five Congress MLAs in the Assembly, including Ramachandra Kadam, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Sofia Firdous, Ashok Das, and CS Rajan Ekka.
The motion alleges that the Congress members violated Assembly rules by informing the media about a no-confidence motion against the government before it was officially announced in the House.
Panda claimed that the Congress MLAs breached privilege by discussing the motion with the media before the Speaker’s announcement, which is a prerogative of the House. “This is a violation of the rules and procedures of the Assembly,” Panda stated.
However, Congress legislature party leader Ramachandra Kadam dismissed the move as an attempt to stifle the Opposition’s voice. “We have not violated any rules in bringing the no-confidence motion. Whatever we have done is within the rules,” Kadam said, adding that the Congress will continue to raise its voice for the state’s interests.
