Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch has arrested a 30-year-old web designer, Ashish Kumar Yadav, from Varanasi, for allegedly running a cyber-enabled franchise/investment fraud scheme. Yadav posed as a representative of Okinawa Electric Scooters, promising dealership opportunities to unsuspecting victims.
One victim transferred Rs 25, 35,646 after being convinced to invest in the fake dealership. When the victim attempted to withdraw the funds, the accused demanded additional money, revealing the scam. The victim lodged an FIR, and the case is currently under investigation.
The investigating team, led by Inspector Abantimani Nayak, analysed transaction details and digital evidence, leading to Yadav’s arrest in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Incriminating materials, including mobile phones, SIMs, and a laptop, were seized from the accused.
Yadav, a B.Tech graduate in Computer Science and Engineering, was arrested and is currently in custody. The police are investigating to uncover the entire network of the cybercrime gang.
