Taxi Driver’s Death

Bhubaneswar: Badagada police on Monday arrested four persons in connection with the death of taxi driver Bidyadhara Sahu.

The accused — N. Dilip Kumar, Ramesh Chandra Behera, K. Ravindra and Deepak Kumar Sahukar, all residents of Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district — had allegedly abducted Bidyadhara on September 16 after demanding money and documents from him.

Sahu’s body was recovered on September 20 from the Baranga-Pitapalli road under Chandaka police limits. A missing complaint had been lodged by his wife a day earlier.

Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh said the accused claimed Bidyadhara had taken their documents and money on the promise of jobs. Under pressure, he died by suicide while in their custody. The accused later tried to hang the body from a tree to pass it off as suicide.

Singh added that four arrests have been made so far and more are likely as the investigation continues.
