Bhubaneswar: Subhashree Swain has made her mark in the India Book of Records by performing the maximum number of Kathak dance knee spins in circular motion. Subhashree achieved this feat by completing 60 Kathak dance knee spins in just 40.94 seconds.
Hailing from Bhubaneswar, Subhashree comes from a family with a rich artistic background. Her father, Udaya Shankar Swain, is a renowned choreographer in the Odia film industry, and her mother, Purnam Swain, is a skilled Odissi dancer and choreographer. Besides, her grandfather Late Guru Baishanab Charana Swain was a respected musician and violin lecturer at the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.
With over 18 years of dedication to dance, Subhashree has mastered various dance forms, including Kathak, Odissi, Chhau, and Western styles.
Apart from her record-breaking achievement, Subhashree has participated in several reality shows, including Little Star and Jhoom Odisha Jhoom, where she was honoured as the 1st Runner-up in 2023.
Recently, her acting in the Odia film Bou Buttu Bhuta (2025) earned kudos from cinema lovers with many praising her powerful performance. The film, directed by Jagdish Mishra, has been well-received for its blend of horror, thriller, and comedy elements.
Currently pursuing a law degree at Capital Law College, Subhashree is not only a skilled performer but also a dedicated teacher. She has taught dance at various institutions, including Atma Malik International School and KIIT International School, and currently teaches Odissi dance at the East Coast Railway Officers’ Club. She also conducts online dance classes for students abroad and manages the Sarala Music and Dance Academy, founded by her parents.
