Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance apprehended Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality) at TPCODL, Bhubaneswar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from an electrical contractor.
According to a release issued by the Vigilance Directorate, the contractor had approached the Vigilance authorities after Ray repeatedly demanded the bribe in exchange for furnishing a final inspection report, which would enable the contractor to receive payment for his work.
Accordingly, a trap was set by the Vigilance team, and Ray was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at a park near his residence. The entire amount of Rs. 20,000 was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the successful operation, simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations associated with Ray, which led to the discovery and seizure of an additional Rs. 9,53,200 in cash from his residence.
A case has been registered against Ray under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and an investigation is currently underway to uncover further details about his alleged corrupt practices.
