Heavy Rains

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the central parts of the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal at 5:30 pm on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the IMD, this system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh by September 26 (today).

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The low-pressure system is expected to cross the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts around September 27 morning.

Several districts in Odisha, including Malkangiri, Gajapati, Koraput, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh, are likely to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms under its influence.

Meanwhile, the regional weather centre has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coasts and the North Bay of Bengal.
