Bus Collision

Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and five others injured in a series of collisions involving three buses and a motorcycle near the Banpur overbridge on National Highway-16 in Khordha district on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Shubham Jyoti Prahraj, a resident of Nimikheta village under Balugaon police limits. He was riding pillion on a motorcycle when the mishap occurred.

According to reports, a bus traveling from Semiliguda to Bhubaneswar came to a sudden halt to avoid hitting cattle lying on the road. A motorcycle following the bus rammed into it and was subsequently rear-ended by another bus. A third bus, reportedly en route from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata, collided into the second bus from behind.

Shubham died on the spot due to the impact, while the motorcycle rider sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar. Among the five others injured were two passengers, a co-driver, and a helper. All are undergoing treatment at the Balugaon Community Health Centre (CHC).

Following the incident, the drivers of all three buses reportedly fled the scene. Banpur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
