Bhubaneswar: The wife and daughter of Gobind Sahu, the prime accused in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case, met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at his official residence on Sunday. During the meeting, they demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Sahu’s alleged suicide.
The family submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, alleging that Gobind Sahu did not commit suicide but was murdered to suppress the truth behind the Mamita Meher case.
“My father did not murder Mamita Meher. The same person who killed her also murdered my father in jail to close the case. We are not getting justice. We trust Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and that is why we met him to request a CBI inquiry,” said Sahu’s elder daughter while speaking to reporters.
“The Chief Minister assured us that a proper investigation will be carried out and the real culprit will be punished. My family and I are living in fear. Anything could happen to us. Even those helping us are not safe,” she added.
The family was accompanied by former Bhawanipatna MLA Pradipta Kumar Naik during the meeting with the Chief Minister.
Gobind Sahu was the main accused in the high-profile murder of Mamita Meher, a young teacher from Tureikela block in Bolangir district. Mamita was employed at an English-medium school in Mahaling, Kalahandi, with which Sahu was associated. She went missing on October 8, 2021, and her decomposed body was found on October 19 inside an under-construction stadium on the school premises. Investigators alleged that Sahu had strangled her to death.
While awaiting trial, Gobind Sahu was reported to have died by suicide in December 2022 inside Kantabanji Sub-Jail.
