Bhubaneswar: The Saheed Nagar Durga Puja Committee has unveiled a strikingly patriotic theme for this year’s festivities, with its pandal showcasing “Operation Sindoor”, a tribute to India’s defense of sovereignty and its pursuit of peace.
Spanning 85 feet by 130 feet, the pandal has been crafted by artists from West Bengal using eco-friendly materials. The design draws inspiration from both mythology and modern history, depicting a continuum from the Mahabharata war to Operation Sindoor.
According to general secretary Sachi Nandan Nayak, the objective is to inspire the younger generation with stories of courage, sacrifice, and the nation’s enduring quest for peace.
Founded in 1978 in a temporary shed, the Saheed Nagar Puja has since become one of Bhubaneswar’s most vibrant celebrations. Committee president Hemant Parida shared that devotees will be offered traditional Odia cuisine as prasad, while food stalls and cultural evenings will add to the festive atmosphere.
The grandeur will culminate with a procession of 24 tableaux, which assemble at the Saheed Nagar puja mandap before immersion. “The immersion will be accompanied by traditional drums, continuing a cherished cultural tradition,” said working president Saroj Kumar Patra.
Blending patriotism with artistry, the Saheed Nagar Durga Puja promises to be one of the capital city’s highlights this festive season.
