Bhubaneswar: Two senior IAS officers from the Odisha cadre — Samarth Verma (2011 batch) and Swadha Dev Singh (2014 batch) — have been appointed to important positions in the Central Government on deputation.
According to official letters issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Monday, both officers have been directed to be relieved within three weeks to join their new roles.
Samarth Verma has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Delhi. His tenure will last for five years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders.
“I am directed to convey that the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Shri Samarth Verma, IAS (OD: 2011) as Director in the M/o Ports. Shipping & Waterways, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier. He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the M/o Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Delhi,” read one of the letters issued by the Department.
Similarly, Swadha Dev Singh has been appointed Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration (Deputy Secretary level) in the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India, New Delhi. Her deputation will be effective from the date she takes charge and will continue until December 31, 2025, with a possibility of extension as per the Central Staffing Scheme guidelines.
“I am directed to convey that the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Ms. Swadha Dev Singh, IAS (OD: 2014) to the post of Director of Census Operations Director of Citizen Registration (Deputy Secretary level) in the O/o RGI (Hqrs.), New Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post for a period upto 31.12.2025 which is further extendable upto admissible tenure under Central Staffing Scheme or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier. She may be relieved of her duties immediately with the directions to join her new assignment,” read another letter.
The DoPT letters also reminded that, per the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) guidelines, officers must join their new posts within three weeks from the issue of the appointment orders. Failure to comply may result in debarment from the Central Staffing Scheme.
