Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) observed Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas with great reverence and community participation across its jurisdiction today.
On the occasion Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, led the celebrations by offering floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, recalling Bapu’s timeless message of truth, non-violence, and cleanliness.
The day was marked with a Prabhat Pheri rally, in which officers, staff, and railway employees enthusiastically participated, spreading Gandhiji’s ideals and the importance of cleanliness among the public. In line with Bapu’s call for dignity of labour, large-scale Shramdan activities were carried out at railway stations, offices, workshops, hospitals and colonies.
On this occasion, ECoR also organised the felicitation of Swachhata Mitras, recognising the tireless efforts of sanitation workers and volunteers who contribute selflessly towards maintaining cleanliness in railway premises.
The observance of Gandhi Jayanti also coincides with the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada, a fortnight-long cleanliness drive launched yesterday across all ECoR Divisions. Under this initiative, employees have pledged to devote 100 hours annually to cleanliness and motivate others to actively participate, furthering Gandhiji’s vision of a Swachh Bharat.
With floral tributes, people’s participation and collective resolve, East Coast Railway paid homage to the Father of the Nation while reaffirming its commitment to a clean, green and healthier tomorrow.
