Bhubaneswar: Seven districts in Odisha are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today, according to the prediction made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The districts under red alerts are Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. The IMD has issued these alerts as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, which has crossed the Odisha coast near Gopalpur and is expected to move north-northwestwards across south Odisha and is likely to gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. However, it will continue to bring heavy rainfall to various parts of the South Odisha.
Apart from red warning to seven districts, the regional weather centre has also issued orange alerts for 16 districts and yellow alerts for 7 districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall in these areas.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecast and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety
