Cuttack: Two warders have been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the escape of two hardcore prisoners from Cuttack’s Choudwar Jail.
According to reports, the two prisoners were lodged in separate cells but managed to escape by cutting through the grill and using a bamboo stick to climb over the wall. They allegedly used a rope made of cloth to scale the wall and make their getaway.
The prisoners were being held in the jail for their involvement in a loot case in Panikoili, where they had allegedly opened fire at a jewellery store staff, killing him on the spot.
Upon being informed about the escape of the prisoners, the Director General of Prisons Susanta Kumar Nath visited Choudwar jail and directed a thorough inquiry. The DIG (Cuttack Range) has been asked to submit a probe report after a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, action was taken against warders Bhagat Ram and Siddhant Sahu.
“An investigation is currently underway, and stringent action will be taken against any jail employees found involved in the prisoners’ escape. So far, action has been taken against the chief warder and warder. We have also instructed the Cuttack Range DIG to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a detailed report”, said DG of Prisons.
