Bhawanipatna: A 10-foot-long python was left critically injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs near a farmland in Madhupur village, Phupgaon panchayat under Koksara block of Kalahandi district on Friday.
Alert villagers who witnessed the incident immediately contacted the snake helpline of Dharmagarh forest range. A rescue team comprising Swadhin Dandasena, Niranjan Sabar, Sadan Naik, and Kahn Sunani rushed to the spot and safely retrieved the snake.
The python, which had sustained severe injuries, was taken to the Koksara Community Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarian Dr. Smuti Rajan Dash and Veterinary Inspector Debisingh Tandi administered emergency treatment.
Forest department officials said the reptile’s condition remains critical. The python will remain under medical supervision until it recovers. Once fit, it will be released back into its natural habitat.
