Bhubaneswar: In a major operation, Kantabanji police rescued 55 persons—including 41 adult migrant workers and 14 children—who were confined inside premises in Ward No. 8 of Balangir district late Friday night. The group was allegedly being prepared for trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, the Kantabanji police, led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), raided the house where the victims were held. The workers and children were reportedly awaiting transportation to other states for labor in sectors such as brick kilns and construction.
Investigations reveal that the trafficking attempt was being coordinated by two middlemen, identified as Brajesh Behera and Prakash Behera. Both suspects fled the scene during the police raid and are currently absconding.
Police have intensified the search for the accused and are working to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of the rescued individuals.
