Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested six persons in connection with a group clash that occurred during the Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Cuttack’s Dargha Bazaar area late Friday night. The incident left six persons, including Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, injured.
According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the idol immersion process concluded around 9.30 am on Saturday. However, between 2 am and 2.30 am, a violent altercation broke out, involving stone-pelting that resulted in minor injuries to six persons.
“All the injured were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. With the help of drone surveillance and CCTV footage, we identified the miscreants involved in the incident. Six persons were arrested during the night and will be forwarded to court today,” Singh informed while addressing the media.
DCP Dnyandeo sustained an injury to his eye, which required stitches, but his condition is reported to be stable. Commissioner Singh confirmed that none of the injuries were critical and all six injured persons are expected to be discharged from the hospital by the end of the day.
Police presence has been intensified in the area and the investigation is currently underway.
