Bhubaneswar: In a remarkable effort, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has successfully cleared over 200 tonnes of garbage and waste materials from Durga Puja mandaps across the city. The sanitation team worked tirelessly to ensure the city’s cleanliness, with 800 metric tonnes of dry garbage being cleared daily.
BMC officials reported that the cleaning staff completed the task by evening, adhering to a zero-waste policy. The civic body deployed additional staff and 15 garbage collection vehicles in two shifts to collect waste from the mandaps and food kiosks. The waste was then sent to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Micro Composting Centre (MCC) for processing.
The BMC has been vigilant about preventing plastic waste and garbage burning, a practice that has been avoided for the third consecutive year. Multiple enforcement squads were also deployed to oversee the waste management efforts.
