Bhubaneswar: The Bharatpur Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly spreading rumours and inflammatory content on social media in the aftermath of the Cuttack immersion violence that broke out late on October 3.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Chandra Sahoo, is a resident of Brahmeswar Patna under Badagada Police Station limits in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Sahoo had posted objectionable, caste-based content online, including abusive language and misinformation, with the potential to disturb communal harmony.
A routine review by the Commissionerate Police’s social media monitoring team flagged his posts, which were found to violate public order advisories. The accused continued to post provocative content despite repeated warnings issued by the Odisha Police and the Commissionerate Police against circulating fake news or inciting unrest related to the Cuttack incident.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh on Tuesday informed that curfew has been lifted in Cuttack city as normalcy has been restored following a 36-hour shutdown.
