Malkangiri: Two minor girls, aged 13 and 14, who were allegedly abducted by two young men, have been rescued by the Childline authorities.
Acting on a complaint filed by girls’ family members, Kalimela police detained two youths from SPV 33 village in connection with the abduction of minor girls.
The girls, cousins from MV 41 village, were reportedly lured and abducted by the youths on the night of Dussehra.
According to the police, the girls had secretly left their homes to watch the Dusshera festivities without informing their families. They were allegedly lured and abducted by two youths from a neighboring village. The families of the girls have filed a complaint accusing the youths of abduction.
Upon being informed, the Childline and SAKHI, (a Support Centre for Women and Children) team intervened and rescued the girls. The accused youths were detained for questioning, and the police are investigating the matter.
The villagers and the girls’ families have demanded strict action against the accused. The police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and the perpetrators will face the law.
The rescued girls have been taken to the SAKHI centre in Malkangiri for further assistance and support.
