Puri: A man and his two nephews were stabbed by an employee of a finance company in the Kerandia area under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district on Wednesday.
The victims have been identified as Ajiba Jena and his nephews Purna Jena and Soumya Ranjan Sahoo. Ajiba sustained injuries on his leg and head and was admitted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). His nephews, who suffered critical stab wounds to their stomach and chest, were shifted to SUM Hospital at Bhubaneswar, for advanced treatment.
According to reports, Ajiba and his son were travelling to the Kerandia area on their scooter today when Amir Baral, an employee of ‘Maa Mangala Agency,’ along with one of his associates, intercepted them and allegedly tried to snatch their vehicle. When Ajiba resisted, the accused attacked him with a knife. Seeing this, his nephews rushed to his aid but were also stabbed when they tried to intervene.
On being informed, Brahmagiri police reached the spot and seized the identity card of the accused from the scene.
Family members of the victims have demanded stern action against the agency staff, alleging that the attack was carried out because the victims had defaulted on a vehicle installment payment. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
