Bhubaneswar: Three members of a chain-snatching gang were arrested by the Jajpur Sadar police on Wednesday following a thorough investigation into multiple chain-snatching incidents in the Jajpur district.
The accused — Sankar Dalai (20), Sri Krishna Dalai (23), and Satyaprakash Dalai (22) — all residents of Malahat village, were apprehended at Ramabag.
According to police, the arrests were made after the investigation team reviewed CCTV footage and gathered other crucial evidence linking the trio to several chain-snatching cases. The police seized four stolen gold chains and three motor cycles reportedly used by the accused during the crimes.
“At least five women had lodged complaints at various police stations across the district, reporting that their gold chains were snatched by miscreants at different locations. Our team inspected the crime scenes and analyzed CCTV footage from these areas. Based on the evidence, we were able to track the suspects’ movements and arrest them,” said DSP Prasant Kumar Majhi.
The arrested persons are currently in police custody and further investigations are underway to ascertain if they were involved in other similar crimes.
