Berhampur: In a significant breakthrough in the BJP leader and lawyer Pitabas Panda murder case, the police have picked up a well-known corporator of Berhampur for questioning.
Sources indicate that the corporator was taken into custody from his residence on Saturday night and is currently being interrogated by a special team comprising senior police officers.
The development comes as part of an ongoing investigation into Panda’s murder, which occurred on October 6 when unidentified assailants shot him outside his residence in Berhampur. The police have been working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the gruesome killing.
According to reports, a 10-member team led by SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M conducted a raid in Khallikote and Langaladeipur areas of Ganjam district late on Saturday night, apprehending two notorious criminals in connection with the case. Sources suggest that the police have traced the mastermind behind Pitabas’ murder and are working to gather concrete evidence.
The investigation is being carried out at an unknown location. The Bar Council of India has also taken cognizance of the matter, demanding a special investigation team (SIT) probe into the killing.
