Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday transferred the jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack, days after two undertrial prisoners escaped from the high-security facility.
According to the Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services, Santoshini Dash, the jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail, has been transferred and posted to Kantabanji Sub-Jail in Balangir on administrative grounds.
In a corresponding move, Raghuraj Majhi, the incumbent jailor-cum-superintendent of Kantabanji Sub-Jail, has been posted as the new jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail, the Directorate informed.
The transfer follows the October 3 jailbreak, in which two undertrial prisoners — Raja Sahani of Lohia Nagar under Muffasil police limits in Begusarai district and Madhukanta Kumar of Rampur under Gaura police limits in Sarana district of Bihar — escaped by cutting the iron bars of their cell.
The duo had been arrested in connection with a murder case in Panikoili area of Odisha’s Jajpur district. They were initially lodged in a Jajpur jail before being shifted to Choudwar Circle Jail.
Following the incident, the state government had suspended two warders, Bhagat Ram and Siddhant Sahu, for dereliction of duty.
