Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, President award-winning schoolteacher Dr. Dwiti Chandra Sahu was brutally assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone by an unidentified miscreant near Bhubaneswar Railway Station in the early hours of Monday.
Sahu, a resident of Rayagada district, sustained a severe head injury and required 25 stitches during treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, the incident took place between 5:30 am and 6 am when Sahu was walking towards Kalpana Square after arriving in the city by train. As no auto-rickshaw was available, he began walking, when an unidentified attacker hit him on the back of his head with a wooden plank. The assailant then fled the spot after snatching his mobile phone.
A passerby noticed the injured teacher and alerted the police, who rushed him to the hospital. Later, Sahu filed a complaint at Laxmisagar police station, following which police launched a manhunt to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das condemned the incident.
“I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on President award winning teacher Dr Dwiti Chandra Sahu at Bhubaneswar Railway Station. A dedicated educator who has transformed lives in remote Odisha deserves our highest respect, not violence,” Das said.
