Sundargarh:  In a brazen robbery, five masked men armed with guns, allegedly looted gold and cash worth over Rs 1 crore from a shop owner’s house near Hatpada under Bonai police limits in Sundargarh district.

According to reports, the robbery occurred around midnight when the robbers broke into the Rashmi Electric Shop, overpowering an employee before entering the residence. The owner, a widow, and her daughter were gagged and tied up by the robbers, who then made off with gold ornaments and Rs 25 lakh in cash.

The victims were held hostage for nearly three hours, during which time no one in the locality was aware of the crime. Bonai Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend the culprits.

Nikita Sahu, daughter of owner of Rashmi Electric Shop, recounting the robbery said, “The masked men threatened our employee Sanat, asking him to open the door by telling us he needed medicine for stomach pain. When we opened the door, they took control, seized our phones, and snatched the ornaments we were wearing. They tied us up and made off with our jewellery and Rs 25 lakh in cash.”
