Rayagada: Taking precautionary measures ahead of Cyclone Montha, the Rayagada district administration has shifted 97 expectant mothers to Maa Gruha (Maternity Waiting Homes).
District Collector Ashutosh Kulakarni on Monday informed that around 150 pregnant women have been identified across the district, and the remaining will be relocated to Maa Gruhas and other safe places shortly.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Rayagada district, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of the cyclone.
Collector Kulakarni has directed all line department officers to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any eventuality.
To strengthen emergency response, the administration has readied three cyclone shelters—at Vikrampur in Gunupur, Kutragad in Bissam Katak, and Hata Seshkhalk in Rayagada block.
Kulakarni further stated that all Block Development Offices (BDOs), Tehsildars, and emergency offices will operate round the clock to monitor the situation and extend timely support to affected areas.
The proactive measures aim to minimize risks to vulnerable populations, especially pregnant women, as Cyclone Montha moves closer to the Andhra coast.
