Jeypore: Former Minister Padmini Dian was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition on Sunday evening after reportedly falling unconscious at her residence. Three other women family members were also found in an unconscious state, one of whom — Dian’s niece Parbati Majhi — later succumbed during treatment.
Padmini Dian, a senior leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), had served as the Minister for Textiles, Handlooms, and Handicrafts in the Odisha government in 2019.
According to reports, family members returning from Jagdalpur discovered Dian and the three women unconscious and immediately rushed them to the Community Health Centre in Kotpad. They were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Jeypore, for further treatment.
However, Parbati Majhi, who was employed at an Anganwadi centre, passed away while undergoing treatment. As Dian’s condition remained critical, she was being shifted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam at the time of filing this report. The other two women continue to receive treatment at the DHH, Jeypore.
While the exact cause of the illness has not yet been confirmed by the family, preliminary reports suggest a possible case of food poisoning, though further investigation is underway.
