Bargarh: In a brazen daylight robbery, thieves smashed the window of a car parked near a hotel in Gandhi Chowk in Bargarh and decamped with Rs 20 lakh.
According to reports, Subodh Kumar Das, a resident of Talipada under Bargarh Municipal Corporation, had withdrawn Rs 15 lakh from the main branch of State Bank of India and Rs 5 lakh from another branch of State Bank of India located on Hospital Road. He kept the total amount of Rs 20 lakh in his car and went to a nearby hotel at Gandhi Chowk for lunch around 2 pm.
While he was inside the hotel, some locals informed him that the window of his car, next to the driver’s seat, had been smashed. Upon returning to his car, Das found that the thieves had broken the glass and stolen all the money inside. He subsequently filed a complaint with the Bargah Town Police Station.
Based on a complaint, police launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
The incident has raised concerns about the growing incidents of theft in the district.
