Bhubaneswar: A Class VII student from Daringbadi in Kandhamal district reportedly died after accidentally swallowing a notice board pin on October 15.
The deceased has been identified as Tushar Mishra, a student of Adarsha Vidyalaya in Dhobatota area of Phulbani.
According to reports, Tushar, who was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence in Phulbani, swallowed the pin during school hours on the said date. Though his friends brought the matter to the concerned class teacher and other staff members soon after Tushar swallowing the pin, the school authorities did not take the matter seriously. The class teacher allegedly asked Tushar to drink water and continue to attend classes.
Tushar informed his grandfather about it after returning from school following which the latter took the former to Cuttack Sishu Bhawan. By the time doctors managed to remove the pin, it was too late and subsequently he went into coma. He, however, died on October 26 while undergoing treatment, reports stated.
His family members, meanwhile, held the school authorities responsible for Tushar’s death. They accused the school authorities of not providing timely treatment to Tushar which led to his death. His parents have approached the district administration demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
