Bhubaneswar: Pintu Das, the former Mayor and prime accused in the Pitabash Panda murder case, was transferred to Phulbani Jail from Berhampur Circle Jail on Friday morning around 8:15 am. The transfer was carried out under tight security arrangements following concerns raised over his safety.
According to reports, Das was lodged in Berhampur Jail after his arrest in connection with the murder case. An application was filed in the Berhampur SDJM Court seeking his transfer to another jail, citing threats to his life in Berhampur Jail. The court accepted the jail superintendent’s application and directed that he be transferred to Phulbani Jail.
The court directed the authorities to transfer Das to Phulbani Jail, ensuring his safety and security. The transfer was carried out smoothly, with Das being shifted to the new jail under heavy security cover.
On the other hand, in the high-profile Pitabash Panda murder case, the prosecution will be represented by an independent government lawyer. The Berhampur Superintendent of Police has written to the CID-CB Director General, recommending the engagement of two senior government lawyers from the Orissa High Court to handle the case.
