Gajapati: A person has gone missing after being swept away by strong currents in a swollen river in Gajapati district’s Rayagada block.
According to reports, Bhim Munda, a resident of Bhalia Sahi village, was reportedly swept away by the strong current in the river while trying to cross a river to reach Nuasahi village to purchase essential items on Thursday. His whereabouts still remain unknown after he was caught in the floodwaters triggered by heavy rains caused by the cyclone Montha in the district.
Despite an extensive search by locals, they failed to trace him.
Subsequently, the fire brigade and ODRAF teams have arrived and are continuing the search operation.
Bhim’s family, including his daughter, are anxiously waiting at the riverbank, holding onto his shoes, hoping for his safe return.
The incident has reignited demands for a bridge over the river, which has long posed a threat to locals who regularly cross it.
