Bhubaneswar: Night temperatures have been falling across Odisha over the past two days and the cold wave is likely to intensify in the coming days, the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre said on Tuesday.

Since Sunday night, most parts of the state have recorded a drop of 2–3°C.

According to IMD’s midday weather bulletin, the cold has become noticeable in many districts and is expected to increase further, with temperatures dropping by 1°C on Tuesday. They may rise slightly by 2°C on Wednesday before falling again from October 7.

Kandhamal is likely to witness a minimum temperature of 13°C on October 8. Other districts are expected to record lows of 14°C in Rourkela, 16°C in Sambalpur, and 15°C in Gajapati.

The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre also reported that winter chills are gradually spreading to coastal Odisha, as minimum temperatures across the state have shown little change (-2.0°C to 2.0°C).

Night temperatures were above normal by 5–6°C at many places in South Interior Odisha, by 3–5°C at a few places in Interior Odisha, and by 2–3°C at some locations in Coastal Odisha. Elsewhere, temperatures remained close to normal.

In Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature over the next 24 hours is expected to be 31°C, while the minimum is likely to be 21°C. The sky is expected to be partly cloudy.

In the past 24 hours, North Odisha and South Coastal Odisha recorded normal temperatures, while South Interior Odisha remained within the seasonal average.

Residents have been advised to take precautions as the cold wave sets in, especially during night and early morning hours.
