Bhubaneswar: A one-day skill enhancement workshop for police officers was held on Thursday at the Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar under the aegis of the Odisha Police, Railway and Coastal Security.
The workshop focused on enhancing professional skills, modernizing investigation techniques, and strengthening railway and coastal security mechanisms in the state.
Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania formally inaugurated the workshop and emphasized that reinforcing and modernizing railway and coastal security remains a top priority for Odisha Police. “Human resource development, advanced technology adoption, and operational efficiency are key areas of focus as we aim to make Odisha Police one of the most modern and robust forces in the country,” Khurania said.
Highlighting ongoing modernization efforts, the DGP informed that the state government has approved ₹149.95 crore to bolster the coastal security system. As part of this initiative, 10 modern drones, three trawlers, and 140 special police officers have been deployed. A modern command and control center for real-time surveillance will also be established soon.
Work is underway to install CCTV systems at 32 fish landing centers and fishing harbors, along with procurement of new boats to enhance coastal patrolling capacity. On the railway front, Khurania said steps have been initiated to create new railway police districts and GRPS, and CCTV monitoring centers will be set up in all 15 existing GRPS to improve vigilance and crime control.
The workshop also featured sessions by experts, including Keshav Kumar, retired DGP of Gujarat and Forensic Advisor to the Assam Government, who spoke on the use of technical knowledge and skills in crime investigation. He shared practical insights from his field experience.
Commandant Ravindra Kumar of the Indian Coast Guard presented on national and international maritime laws and key challenges in coastal security, while Alok Bohra, IGP, RPF, stressed the importance of coordination among various law enforcement and intelligence agencies for effective railway and coastal security.
Earlier, ADGP (Railway and Coastal Security) Arun Bothra delivered the welcome address, highlighting the significance of professional preparedness and inter-agency cooperation in ensuring safety across Odisha’s coastline and rail networks. AIG Satyajit Mishra proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the program.
Officers from Government Railway Police Stations and Marine Police Stations participated in the day-long workshop, which also addressed critical issues such as illegal entry, human trafficking, and cybercrime in the context of railway and coastal policing.
