Angul: A tragic incident unfolded in the Karatapata section of the Angul forest division on Saturday when a man was trampled to death by a wild elephant while grazing goats. The victim’s elder brother narrowly escaped the attack.
The deceased has been identified as Ninu Sahu (45), a resident of Nandapur village under the Karatapata section.
According to reports, Ninu and his elder brother Krishna Sahu (60) had gone to the nearby forest, as they do every day, to graze their goats. Around noon, a lone tusker suddenly emerged from the jungle and charged at them.
In the ensuing chaos, Ninu was caught and crushed to death, while Krishna managed to flee and return to the village to alert others. Upon receiving the information, villagers rushed to the spot and expressed anger over the absence of forest department officials.
The incident has triggered tension in the locality, with residents demanding immediate measures to prevent such attacks and ensure the safety of people living near forested areas.
