Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to launch a dedicated Gupchup Bazar which would offer people a hygienic and convenient space to enjoy the popular street food. The market, part of a pilot project, aims to streamline roadside vending and reduce traffic congestion.
The Civic body has selected an abandoned place in front of the Regional Institute of Education for the purpose. The market will accommodate 30-40 stalls, with vendors receiving specially designed trollies free of cost. The area is being paved, beautified, and equipped with parking and other facilities.
Vendors will operate from 4 pm to 10 pm, with emphasis on maintaining hygiene and wearing gloves while serving food. The BMC aims to provide a single, organised location for vendors and customers, improving convenience and cleanliness.
Mayor Sulochana Das stated, “Gupchup is popular among people. We wanted to create a designated spot for vendors, improving their business and reducing road congestion.”
The BMC will provide trollies to the vendors, which were provided by a bank under its CSR activity, the mayor said.
The market will feature various Gupchup varieties, including dahi Gupchup and pudina special Gupchup.
