Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a warning for cold wave conditions likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Cuttack, Anugul, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, and Khordha districts on November 11 and 12, as minimum temperatures continue to dip across Odisha.
The midday weather bulletin, issued at 1 PM today, highlights the absence of any significant synoptic system over the region, leading to predominantly dry weather. However, a notable drop in night temperatures has prompted the alert for these six districts during Day 2 (valid from 08.30 AM of November 11 to 08.30 AM of November 12) and Day 3 (valid from 08.30 AM of November 12 to 08.30AM of November 13).
Minimum temperatures have already shown an appreciable fall of 2°C to 4°C at one or two places in Interior Odisha and a few spots in South Coastal Odisha, with no large change elsewhere. They remain markedly below normal (by about -6°C) at isolated locations, appreciably below normal (-3°C to -4°C) at one or two places, and below normal (-2°C to -3°C) at a few places in North Odisha. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in the plains was 11.0°C at Phulbani in South Odisha, while the highest maximum was 33.6°C at Paralakhemundi.
The IMD forecasts dry weather to persist across all districts of Odisha for the next seven days, with no warnings for Day 1 (up to 0830 hrs IST of November 11), Day 4 (November 13–14), and beyond up to November 17. An outlook for the subsequent three days (November 17–20) indicates no large change. Minimum temperatures are very likely to fall further by 2°C to 3°C over the next 2–3 days, with no significant variation thereafter.
Moderate fog was observed at one or two places in Sundargarh, while shallow fog occurred in isolated spots of Kalahandi and Jharsuguda in Interior Odisha. No rainfall was reported, maintaining dry conditions statewide.
For Bhubaneswar and its neighborhood, the next 24 hours will feature a mainly clear sky, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 30°C and 14°C, respectively. Observations recorded at 0830 hrs IST today showed a maximum of 30.6°C, minimum of 14.8°C, and zero rainfall.
Farmers across Odisha can expect dry weather in the next 24 hours, with no specific warnings. Fishermen along the Odisha coast face no alerts for the next five days (November 10–14).
The IMD advises residents in affected areas to take precautions against the cold.
