Bhubaneswar: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday assured that the Nuapada Assembly by-election in Odisha, scheduled for tomorrow, will be conducted under tight security, with no threat from Naxals to the polling process.
CRPF 216th Battalion Commandant Eric Gilbert Jose said that all necessary arrangements have been made to secure polling booths.
“No Naxal will be able to reach the polling booths. We have dominated the area and deployed security personnel at all booths. Helicopters are also being used to deploy polling parties to critical locations,” he said.
He added that sensitive booths have been identified and that security forces are actively monitoring the region to ensure smooth polling.
“People here are engaged in their daily activities and there is no fear. They will come out and exercise their right to vote. Our responsibility is to ensure there is no threat from Naxals and we are fully prepared to do so,” he said.
The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of sitting Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8.
