Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Jaynarayan Bagh, Junior Engineer of Bongomunda Block in Bolangir district, on charges of misappropriating government funds amounting to ₹22,16,072 by preparing false muster rolls, inflating measurements, and showing non-existent renovation work on tanks under the Belpada Gram Panchayat area.
According to Vigilance officials, the alleged irregularities were committed during the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25.
A detailed investigation by the Vigilance department revealed that out of the five tanks shown as renovated under various government schemes, one tank claimed to have been renovated in 2023–24 was found to be non-existent.
Following the inquiry, the Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station registered a case under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and Sections 316, 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused Jaynarayan Bagh was apprehended and forwarded to the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, officials said.
Further investigation is underway to trace the misappropriated funds and identify any other officials or contractors involved in the case, sources added.
